  1.                           TEST MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (TMS)

  3.                            INSTALLATION  INSTRUCTIONS

  7.                      For Test Management System version 1.08

  10.  
  11.     WARNING!    If you have any previous version of TMS already
  12.                 installed, DO NOT FOLLOW these instructions.  If
  13.                 you do, it will destroy any test items you already
  14.                 have in the test bank and delete all historical
  15.                 test information.  Instead, read the file called
  16.                 WARNING.TXT or README.1ST, both of which will
  17.                 explain the process for updating TMS to a newer
  18.                 version.

  21. 1.  Make two copies of each TMS diskette;  use one set as the working copies
  22.     (note:  TMS is distributed on 2  5.25" or 1  3.5" diskettes)
  23.  
  24. 2.  Create a subdirectory for TMS on your hard disk.   To make a subdirectory,
  25.     start on the DOS command line (usually a prompt like C> or C:\) and type
  26.     in the commands listed under COMMAND, and follow the instructions that are
  27.     indicated by the < and > symbols.  This assumes that C: is your hard disk
  28.  
  29.    COMMAND                          INSTRUCTIONS

  31.     C:             <press the ENTER key - this makes C: the current drive>
  32.     MD\TESTING     <press the ENTER key - this creates the \TESTING sub-
  33.                    <directory>
  34.  
  35. 3.  Do NOT add the TMS subdirectory to your DOS PATH statement
  36.  
  37. 4.  Copy all the files from the working diskette(s) to the TMS subdirectory
  38.  
  39.   COMMAND                            INSTRUCTIONS

  41.    C:              <press the ENTER key - this makes C: the current drive>
  42.    CD\TESTING      <press the ENTER key - now \TESTING is the current>
  43.                    <subdirectory>
  44.                    <now place the TMS diskette in drive A:>
  45.    COPY A:\*.* /V  <press the ENTER key - all the TMS files will be copied>
  46.                    <and checked that the copy was accurate>
  47.                    <if you have more than one TMS diskette, remove the first>
  48.                    <diskette and replace it with the second, then do the>
  49.                    <next procedure below>
  50.    COPY A:\*.* /V  <and press the ENTER key - all the remaining TMS files>
  51.                    <will be copied and checked for accuracy in copying>
  52.  
  53. 5.  To run TMS, change the drive/directory to the one where TMS is installed,
  54.     and type the letters TMS, and then press the ENTER key.  TMS will load
  55.     in 15 to 60 seconds;  to exit TMS, press the E key at the main menu
  56.  
  57. 6.  Make sure that your CONFIG.SYS file contains the statement:
  58.  
  59.         FILES=16             <for at least 6 available for TMS>
  60.  
  61.     This will insure that you will not get a "TOO MANY FILES OPEN" error
  62.     when preparing the disk-based testing disk.
  63.  
  64. 7.  Read the instructions for operation of TMS in the text file MANUAL.TMS
  65.     contained on the distribution diskette.
